Help shape the future of community energy in Ontario.

A grid of OREC members and Board Directors
Join OREC's diverse Board of committed and experienced Directors.

OREC is inviting expressions of interest from individuals who want to help lead one of Ontario’s most successful community energy co-operatives. Since 2010, OREC has financed and managed more than 30 local solar, wind, and energy retrofit projects, giving residents the opportunity to own part of the clean energy transition.

We’re looking for 1 or 2 new Directors to join our volunteer Board for the 2025-26 term.

Who we’re looking for

OREC’s strength comes from the diversity of its members and the communities we serve. This year, we’re especially interested in hearing from candidates who bring one or more of the following perspectives or experiences:

  • Diversity – including women, younger members, and individuals from equity-seeking groups

  • Regional representation – members based in the GTA or Kingston

  • Professional expertise in one or more of:

    • Energy engineering / operations

    • Finance / investments

    • Communications / marketing / advocacy

    • Renewable energy / sustainability

More important than any single skill is a strong fit with OREC’s mission and co-operative values, and a willingness to participate actively in Board and committee work. Becoming a member of OREC is a prerequisite.

What the Board does

OREC’s Board oversees strategy, risk, and governance, working closely with the General Manager, the Executive, and contractors. Our committees reflect the range of our activities:

  • Membership – communications, outreach, events, and member engagement

  • Business Development – finding and evaluating energy projects and partnership development

  • Finance – capital raises, investment management, and financial oversight

  • Operations – technical performance and asset management

  • Advocacy – policy engagement, lobbying, and community energy leadership

Serving on the Board is an opportunity to make a direct contribution to the growth of community-owned renewable energy, while learning from others who share that vision.

How to apply

If you’re passionate about community energy and want to play a part in OREC’s next chapter, we’d love to hear from you.

Please send a short expression of interest (a paragraph or two about your background and why you’d like to join) to recruiting@orec.ca by Nov. 15th. Selected candidates will be invited for a brief interview to ensure a good mutual fit.
