A "Production by Resource" bar chart showing OREC’s energy generation from April 2021 to December 2025. The chart tracks solar and wind production, showing a significant upward trend that culminates in a record-breaking December 2025. A towering green bar for December 2025 marks the "Best month combined" at 1,255 MWh, with wind energy contributing the vast majority of that total (1,227 MWh). The text below the chart notes that the best month for solar was July 2025 at 612 MWh.

December is usually the month of shortest days and longest nights, but at OREC, we just had our brightest winter yet. We are thrilled to announce that in December 2025, our portfolio generated more than 1 Gigawatt-hour (GWh) of clean, community energy to the grid.

To put that in perspective, 1.25 GWh is enough to power roughly 1,400 average Ontario homes for an entire month.

The Tiverton Effect

This milestone was made possible by a major strategic move: our transition to 100% ownership of the Tiverton wind turbine. Late last year, we secured the remaining 50% of this 2.3 MW powerhouse.

By taking full control, we’ve effectively doubled our capacity from this site at a time when wind energy is at its peak. While our solar panels take a bit of a winter nap under the snow, Tiverton has been working overtime, proving that a diversified portfolio is the key to a resilient, year-round grid. Overall, our annual production has grown at a compound rate of roughly 35%.

More Power on the Horizon

What’s even more exciting? This record-breaking December doesn’t even include the new 600 kW expansion at the Canada Science and Technology Museum.

Our team has been working hard on this project—we believe it's the largest rooftop solar array in Eastern Ontario—and we have an official date for the finish line. Hydro Ottawa is scheduled to connect the expansion to the grid on February 24th.

The Bottom Line

Generating 1.25 GWh in a single month isn’t just a "number on a spreadsheet." It’s a testament to what happens when neighbors pool their capital to build something tangible. It’s about local resilience, member-driven impact, and a power structure that actually serves the people.

Thank you for being part of the co-op that’s proving—one gigawatt at a time—that the future of energy is community-owned.
