Zurich Wind Turbine

Wind project in Ontario

paul-demarais-school-1.jpg

This 800kW Enercon E-48 turbine is located in Zurich, ON near Lake Huron, and produces 2,800,000 kWh/yr – enough electricity to power over 200 homes. The turbine operates under a 20-year Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) contract and is connected to the local distribution network, benefiting the nearby community. OREC is excited to bring its co-operative ownership model to this wind turbine. Driven by its vision of increasing community owned distributed renewable energy, OREC continues to raise capital from new and existing members in Eastern and Southwestern Ontario.

This is OREC’s second investment in wind energy. It solidifies OREC’s position as a key cooperative player in the distributed renewable energy space in Ontario, balancing our solar assets that generate more electricity in the summer with wind power that performs best in the winter months.

"This turbine significantly increases OREC’s electricity generation capacity and will produce about as much electricity as OREC’s three largest solar projects."
