Marion is driven by a sense of urgency about the climate crisis, and over the last few years has focused on environmental education as well as advocacy for more robust climate action in the context of Ottawa’s High Performance Development Standards. She is excited to help grow our impact and work for a more resilient and sustainable future.

 

“I really am excited to join OREC at this time, joining forces with CoEnergy, working with the Board and the many engaged members. As I experience the effects of the climate crisis this summer: the heat waves in Europe, the devastating forest fires, rivers drying up and also the energy crisis, I am more than ever committed to help establish renewable energy as the only and urgent way forward.”

John Kirkwood

President

John is entering his third year as OREC's President, leading the co-operative alongside a dedicated team of staff, contractors, and volunteers. He is passionate about advancing progressive energy policies and has a goal for community-owned renewable energy replacing Ontario's remaining fossil fuel generation.

​

Professionally, John is a Technology Consultant with over 25 years of global experience, focused on helping organizations identify, plan, and deliver effective IT solutions. His areas of expertise include:

  • Business Strategy

  • Digital Transformation

  • Cost Optimization

John is also a proud grandparent, parent, and a strong electric vehicle (EV) enthusiast. He has completed several adventurous, low-carbon road trips, including a 12,500 km journey from Ottawa to Mexico to California and back.

Chandra Narra 

Treasurer

Chandra is a Manager of Strategic Transformation & Change Enablement at Canadian Tire Corporation for their Supply Chain Major Projects division. He brings extensive and diverse experience ranging from finance, stakeholder planning, change management, and strategic transformation in provincial government, public, and private sectors.

​

Chandra has his MBA and a Certificate of Social Impact through the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, a BBA from Trent University, and an International Project Management Certificate from the University of Toronto. He is based in Toronto.

​

Chandra is a lifelong learner who is constantly hungry to learn and master his next challenge. Chandra shares his knowledge and expertise with the next generation of leaders as a faculty member of Trent University’s School of Business.

​

Chandra has passionately challenged and influenced systems to bring corporate work ethic and acumen into day-to-day executions. Whether that be through his experience serving as a board and steering committee member for the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance, vice-president and board member for the Trent Durham Student Association, class president for MBA class 2024, as Board member for The Riverwood Conservancy, amongst other positions of impact, Chandra always strives to bring efficiency to any challenge.

Fin MacDonald

Secretary

Fin is a sustainability and carbon management professional with over 10 years experience managing sustainability programs and advising clients on sustainability strategy.

 

As a senior consultant at Urban Equation, Fin assists clients with corporate sustainability strategy, while providing best in class ESG services for programs such as One Planet Living and the Science Based Targets Initiative.


Prior to joining Urban Equation, Fin worked at the Canada Green Building Council where he managed the Zero Carbon Building Program and helped launch the first zero carbon building standard in the world.

Dick Bakker

Vice President

Dick has been actively involved in the Renewable Energy Industry since 2002 and is a vocal advocate of all renewable energy options for many years. He has been operating a Micro-Fit solar system since June 2010 at his property in Manotick Station.

​

Dick has 20 years of sales and management experience in the telecommunications industry with companies such as Telesat Canada, Cisco and a number of smaller firms. He now operates a seasonal event retail store. Dick has a BA (Politics) and MBA from Queen’s University.

Paul Haskins

Vice President

Paul has been actively engaged with the OREC team since 2024 and led the development of our Communications and Marketing strategy. He joined the Executive in 2026.

Paul brings a data-driven, disciplined approach to our organization and a wealth of experience in helping organizations to transform and grow.

​

As a former Vice President and Senior Partner, Paul has led digital transformation and communication projects for global corporations and startups, working across Europe, Asia, and North America. He has collaborated with leading consumer brands, public utilities, and governments to improve communications, efficiencies and decision effectiveness.

Alain Jegen

Director

Alain focuses on sustainable development and innovative technologies that address climate change issues in Energy Exploration, Production and Utilization, Power Generation, Waste Management and Transportation after he co-founded 2 local system engineering companies in aerospace and defense.

 

Alain’s expertise includes energy efficiency (Green Buildings (2009 CIRS building-UBC), engineered wood buildings, BIPV), sensor and monitoring systems (Water, Electricity), renewable energy (Solar – Wind), energy storage (Solar & Geo Thermal (Drake Landing Solar Community), Fuel cell, Li-Ion/Flow batteries, Flywheels), Electric Transportation, Smart Grid and Advanced Materials.

Bria Aird

Director

Bria is a registered professional planner with 7 years of experience working as a consultant at Fotenn Planning + Design in Ottawa. She has worked on development projects, community plans and master plans from the Northwest Territories to PEI, with particular passion for integrating climate action/resilience and community engagement.

​

Bria is excited to be participating on the OREC board to help build local resilient energy systems and communities.

Brett Kerrigan, P.Eng.

Director

Brett is an energy systems engineer with over 15 years of experience at the intersection of utilities, buildings, and clean tech. He specializes in identifying cost-effective decarbonization pathways and translating complex technical data into actionable strategic insights. Currently Senior Research Lead at Dunsky Energy + Climate Advisors, Brett’s expertise spans virtual power plants, distributed energy resources, and long-term load forecasting. He holds a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering (Energy Systems) and is a passionate advocate for ensuring that the declining costs of clean technology deliver tangible, resilient energy benefits to local communities.

Carter Shieck, P.Eng.

Director

Carter holds a Bachelors of Civil Engineering from Carleton University where he majored in ‘Architectural Conservation and Sustainability Engineering’. His final year design project centred around the design and construction of a Net-Zero Solar powered Tiny-house. For this project his group was selected to represent the university in two Ontario based, and one Canada wide engineering competitions.

​

He is also a LEED Green Associate and is passionate about renewable energy and community ownership.

​

Carter has over 7 years of experience working as an engineering project manager, working on building retrofit, restoration, energy audits and roofing projects.

 

Besides great familiarity with the financial & administrative procedures involved with construction/retrofit projects, Carter also has expertise in preparing and evaluating engineering drawing, construction contracts, cost estimates, project schedules, safety audits, and facility condition assessments.

​

Carter lived in Ottawa for 5 years and still has family ties to the city. He currently lives in Toronto and would be in a position to meet contacts and attend meetings in the GTA on behalf of OREC.

Emmet Stiff

Director

Emmet is a professional mechanical engineer registered in the province of Alberta with impressive track record in the energy sector. He holds an MBA from HEC Montreal where he specialized in advanced renewable bioenergy systems. Throughout his career, Emmet has traversed Canada’s natural resource and energy landscapes, providing him with a unique perspective on the country’s diverse energy needs.

 

A dedicated Ottawan, Emmet is actively engaged in bolstering the city’s resilience to climate change. His commitment to making Ottawa and its communities more energy secure sees him involved with OREC, contributing to local energy sustainability efforts.

 

Emmet’s environmental dedication is underscored by his past role as a registered GHG Inventory Quantifier and inaugural account agent in Ontario’s Cap and Trade Program, a pivotal initiative aimed at reducing the province’s greenhouse gas emissions. Although the program was halted in 2018, Emmet continues to make a difference in the energy sector, focusing on energy efficiency and automation.

James Ramage

Director

James holds Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo and is a Professional Engineer (Ontario) and member of the PEO Ottawa chapter Sustainability and Green Energy committee.

​

James has over 35 years of experience in the engineering field, possesses solid business and technology consulting skills and rounds out his experience with strong project management skills including traditional project management (Master’s Certificate, Sprott School of Business) and emerging Agile methodologies.

​

James’ current focus is to make a difference by driving renewable energy and sustainability locally by adopting global best practices – and yes, to save the planet!

Josh Reinhart

Director

Josh is a Professional Engineer and Licensed Master Electrician who brings a wealth of expertise in sustainable engineering, project leadership, and community education to OREC. He is deeply committed to advancing clean energy initiatives, evidenced by his work on building resilience, sustainable construction and his role as an instructor for homeowner electrical safety, empowering individuals to contribute to Canada's emissions targets. He also founded PG Electrical Solutions and PG Engineering Solutions. 

​

Academically, Joshua holds a Master of Engineering and an Engineer's Degree in Civil Engineering from Carleton University. His research at Carleton encompassed sustainable construction, green building, and the built environment. Notably, his work includes a publication titled "On modelling of resiliency events using building performance simulation: a multi-objective approach" which details an interactive tool for assessing and improving building resilience to energy supply chain changes.

With a deep commitment to community engagement and innovative solutions in the built environment, Joshua's diverse skill set and forward-thinking approach align perfectly with OREC's dedication to community-powered renewable energy.

Michele le Saux, M.Sc.

Director

Michele is a results-driven leader known for her ability to bridge the gap between technical engineering and strategic management. With over 30 years of international experience in the satellite industry, she has a proven track record of negotiating complex contracts and leading multi-disciplinary teams to success. Since pivoting to the renewables sector, Michele has combined her engineering background with building science to launch a sustainable consulting firm. She brings to the OREC Board a proactive leadership style, a creative approach to problem-solving, and a deep commitment to making local renewable energy projects a reality.

Nichole Dusyk, Ph.D.

Director

Nicole leads the Canada Energy Team at the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) and brings two decades of experience in climate and energy governance. An expert in net-zero pathways and policy analysis, she has a deep academic and professional background in sustainability and participatory politics. Her work focuses on the imperative of moving toward a sustainable energy system through rigorous research and community-led engagement. Nichole is dedicated to applying her leadership and analytical expertise to help OREC navigate the complex regulatory and policy landscape of the clean energy transition.

Robin Hutcheson, P.Eng., CxA, LEED AP

Director of Engineering

Robin is a power & controls engineer / energy consultant with 40 years experience in design, construction and facility management, and 25 years’ experience with renewable energy.  He is one of the pioneers of solar energy in Canada with over 100MW of solar projects spanning utility scale to off-grid facilities.  Recently, Robin has been working with battery energy storage systems and microgrids in Canada’s Arctic region and the Caribbean.

 

Robin’s extensive experience with building design and construction strengthens the OREC team to ensure systems are designed and constructed for optimized performance.  He has worked with OREC / Co-Energy since 2019 and is grateful to lead OREC’s project delivery engineering and advance community owned renewable energy.

Eric Gladu, B.Eng., EIT

Technical Director

Eric is the Founder and Principal of EnerGlad Inc., an Ottawa-based firm specializing in solar operations, project management, technical advisory services, and asset stewardship for commercial, municipal, and community energy portfolios across Eastern Ontario.

​

With over 16 years of experience in renewable energy construction, development, and long-term asset operations, Eric combines field expertise with structured project oversight, regulatory coordination, and active system performance monitoring.

 

Through EnerGlad, he oversees more than 10 MW of distributed solar across 65+ operating assets, delivering preventative maintenance programs, repowering initiatives, performance analytics, lifecycle planning, and support for regulatory and utility approvals associated with capital upgrades and new construction projects.


Eric is committed to disciplined, data-driven asset management that enhances reliability, compliance, and long-term financial performance. He is registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) as an Engineering Intern (EIT) and is actively working toward his Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.

Caminie Mahadeo

Finance Manager

Caminie gained her extensive insight into the inner workings of the television industry as the Head of Finance for one of the more prominent production houses in Toronto. After nine years in this capacity, she moved on to serve a wider spectrum of businesses as an independent consultant providing advice
on all aspects of business and finance.


Her passion is helping small business and entrepreneurs scale quickly and sustainably.


Caminie has seen the effects of climate change and is deeply concerned about the increasing damage across the globe. She is happy to work with OREC to contribute to building a more sustainable future.
