Looking to take real action on climate change?
So are we.
OREC, the Ottawa Renewable Energy Cooperative, is a member-owned co-op that builds and operates community-powered renewable energy projects—solar, wind, and more. We keep energy local, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and give our members a real say in shaping our energy future.
How Does It Work?
• Members invest together in OREC's renewable energy portfolio. • OREC develops and manages the projects—handling construction, financing, and operations. • Members earn returns while helping cut emissions and strengthen Ottawa’s energy resilience. It’s a proven approach: we’ve built 25 solar sites in the Ottawa region, including schools, museums, and on non-farmable rural land.
Why Join OREC?
Becoming an OREC member means more than just investing—it’s about being part of a local movement. • Impact close to home: Our projects are right here in Ottawa, where you can see the results of your investment. • Climate action that counts: Every new solar project displaces fossil fuels, helping cut greenhouse gas emissions. • Community ownership: Instead of profits leaving town, OREC keeps energy dollars working in Ottawa. • A growing network: You’ll join over 800 other Ottawa members who already share this vision.
Community First. Always.
When OREC succeeds, our members succeed—profits are returned to the co-op, not to outside investors. Every project we build adds to Ontario’s local energy independence, resilience, and climate progress.
